What Personal Data We Collect and Why We Collect It

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. If you opt-in, your email address may be used to send you email alerts about other comments. Very rarely, a representative from Mythcreants may send you a one-time email to follow up on a comment you have posted.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Forms

For most forms, we collect your name or online handle, email address, and message. Our form software also collects your IP address. When you explicitly consent, the handle and message may be shared publicly on our website.

For those who order services, we also collect basic details on your fiction work as necessary to complete those services for you. That includes your word count, special directions regarding your work, and the file of your work itself. If you choose to pay via credit card, we will store basic information such as the brand name of the credit card and the last four digits of the visitor’s credit card number. Otherwise, this information is send to Stripe to process the visitor’s payment, and it is not kept by us.

If you sign up for our email newsletter, we collect your email address and the name of the page you signed up on. This data is sent to MailChimp to store and use for delivery of our email newsletter. If you choose to share it though another method, we may also know your first and last name.

Product Sales

When visitor’s purchase a product from us, we store contact information we can use to facilitate the sale and track purchases. That may include your name, email address, billing address, and phone number. Your IP address is also recorded by our eCommerce software.

If you choose to pay with a Credit Card, your payment information is sent to Stripe for processing.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you add a product to your shopping cart, three cookies will be used to retain your cart information. No personal information is stored in these cookies. You can learn more about these cookies at https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/woocommerce-cookies/

If you visit the mobile website, you will have an option to switch to “full view” – the desktop version of the website. If you click this link, a cookie will be set to save your preference and prevent you from being redirected back to the mobile site on the next page load. No personal information is stored in this cookie.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

We send tracking data to Google Analytics so we understand how our site is used and better serve our visitors. Tracking data is anonymized – your IP address is obscured before it is sent to Google so Google cannot associate the data it collects with personal IPs.

User Accounts and Participant Data

For bloggers or editors who have worked with us, we also store the personal information they have provided to us. This may include their name, online identifier, website address, email address, and a short biography. This is used to send them email notification or to follow their requests for attribution them on the website. Bloggers or editors with user accounts can view and edit this information (except the username cannot be edited by users). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Where We Send Your Data

The following service providers may be given your personal data to complete services for us:

  • Comment data is sent to Akismet for the purposes of filtering spam comments. The privacy policy Akismet operates under can be found at https://automattic.com/privacy/
  • When you comment, anonymized string created from your email address is sent to Gravatar to check if you use the Gravatar service. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/.

How Long We Retain Your Data

If you have a pending, canceled, or failed product order, your data will be deleted after 1 month.

If you submitted our copy edit quote request form but did not order a copy edit, your quote submission will be deleted after 1 year.

Unless specified elsewhere in this policy, other information stored by Mythcreants is retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize repeat commenters or customers.

What Rights You Have Over Your Data

If you have an account on this site, have submitted a contact form, have purchased a product, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
