A ship at sea is surrounded by monsters who are threatening the crew.
Sailor: We could really use some magic right now!
Mage: Sorry, I can only use it when it’s dramatically appropriate.
Sailor: Well, when will it be dramatically appropriate?
Mage: Hmm… probably when someone is about to die.
Monsters grab a couple crew members.
Mage: Not that person.
Mage: Or that person.
The mage is looking out toward the see in thought. Behind them, the angry sailor is holding up their weapon, ready to hit the mage.
Mage: Someone who matters. Maybe you, definitely me.
P.S. Our bills are paid by our wonderful patrons. Could you chip in?

This is the reason why you sacrifice a mage to the sea monster as soon as it turns up. Either they save themselves with magic or the monster had some food and is placated.
I hope Bunny’s finals went well.
As well as I could’ve hoped! I’m just glad they’re over ;)
Well, it may actually work.
Or Kathy Mar’s variation for Star Trek:
I’ve got a wild idea now if only it will work
If I can be the one behind our crazy Captain Kirk
I’m ready, and determined, and my phaser’s set to kill
I’ll get him in the back as we charge down the hill!
I am in trouble…
I’m Security…
